Finished: Necromunda Slave Ogyrn gang + terrain

Hi folks,

Another gang done as part of AHPCXIII, this time Necromunda Slave Ogyrns. 

Again, I went with an industrial type colour scheme, using various yellows. 

These models stand a good bit bigger than the standard 28mm necro figures. 

Alongside these, I also finished off some more terrain bits. 

Finished: Necromunda Goliath Gang

Despite my best efforts I've fallen behind on blog posts - again!

Another AHPCXIII entry, completed as part of the challenge, was my Goliath gang for Necromunda - which included a 3d printed 'Zerker proxy. 

For these guys, I went for another industrial look - this time using Vallejo Xpress orange for the armour plates, with xpress greys for the trousers. 

I've a few more models to do for these - Champions and a few optional extras for when the gang has money to upgrade weapons.

Finished: Necromunda Beastmen and Hangers On

With the AHPC ongoing, I've been struggling to find time to update my own blog! As such, this is very much an update for mini's I painted in January.

First up is my Chaos Corrupted Goliath gang. I wanted to do a beastman gang, but the rules for Chaos Cult Helots in the game didn't fit the build of the models I had. Instead, I decided to build them as a corrupted Goliath gang - so using the Goliath stats and equipment, but beastman models.  

Four of these models came from Ebay and were originally part of the Blackstone Fortress set. The gang leader (with the staff) and the champion (with the two handed weapon) were metal figures I picked up at a show a few years ago, from a fantasy range. I converted them a little (adding a Bolt Pistol to the leader, and a holster to the champion. The other figures are GW Ungor models with Goliath bits added. 

Now, the really interesting bit for me was that I painted the whole gang using my Army Painter Speedpaints in less than 6 hours. I know they are not the best paint jobs, but for what I wanted to achieve, and the time I wanted to spend on them, I think they look great. I stuck to a certain selection of colours, varying up what I did a little between models, but giving them a more uniform look. 

Not long after I painted them, they got some table time up against Martin's enforcers. Unfortunately Martin had the worst dice day I have ever seen...

These tables were reinforced slightly with a few other bits I'd managed to paint as part of the challenge. MDF bits I've had for a while, given the same simple rusty paint job as everything else and pressed into service. I've still a good bit of big terrain to paint for this, but I'm holding off for now as it will take time to assemble.  

As part of this Speedpaint frenzy, I also completed a few other minis. First up, as part of one of the challenge bonus entries, a greyscale 'Agent' to use for scenario games.

This was so simple, using the slapchop technique along with black, grey and white speed paints, that I might paint on of my gangs this way in the future - Delaque, obviously! This model was from the Stargrave plastic Mercenaries set - the models were generally just a little too small for Necromunda, but I built two as non-combat type bods before I decided to trade them with Martin for his enforcer spare parts. 

Then I did some spare  GW 'Hive Scum' conversions, with a House Escher Heavy Stubber and Flamer. These are really alternative weapons teams for my Chaos Cultists, but might fit other things in the future. 

Again, a quick Speedpaint job using the Army Painter range. 

Next up, a proxy 'Slopper' hanger on, along with the other NPC type character I built. These proxy models, along with the others below, all came via CrisisActorMinis on Etsy. I've only one model from Steve still to paint, but have more on the list to pick up in the near future.

As a quick extra, I also painted up one of the bits of GW stuff I'd collected a while ago from the cover of a magazine. And some small bits of scatter terrain I had to go with my barrels. 

So that little lot of mini's ended up being one weeks submission, and the most points I've ever achieved for a single entry. When it comes to the challenge, painting 28mm stuff is almost cheating... Especially using Speedpaints. 

Now, I know these models are not the best painted ever, but they are painted and on the tabletop they look fine. For my Necromunda stuff, that's all I want really - it's a side project and once I don't want to spend a huge amount of time on. I can also always come back in the future and do a bit more on these with shading and highlights. But for now, these will do!

Finished: 28mm Necromunda figures

So, again, trying to catch up on recently complete bits for the AHPC which haven't featured here yet. 

Part of my plans for this years challenge was to make use of the Army Painter speedpaints I got for my birthday this year, and get figures painted for Necromunda. This is very much a learning process for me, as I'm not used to painting:

- 28mm figures

- with speedpaints

- non-uniform models

And as such, I figured the best way to get my 'eye in' was with a batch of Chaos Cultists. Specifically, models I plan to use for a Helot Cult gang. 

These models are mainly plastic cultist figures from GW, with a 3d printed Psyker designed by Imitation of Life Miniatures and purchased from CrisisActorMinis on Etsy. I've also included a more modern cultist with grenade launcher and sniper rifle from various GW sets, bought individually on Ebay. 

As these guys will likely form a Tzeentch inspired gang, I went with blue as the primary colour. Not all the figures will be in the gang at the same time, but it was good practice to do them all and I think there are scenarios where having a horde of bad guys could be useful. 

I also painted up some more scatter terrain, in the form of barrels, as well as the two platforms. 

To support these guys, a Chaos Spawn proxy has also been painted:

This is another plastic GW figure from one of their recent chaos sets. I'd not quite finished the base when taking these pictures - it's been tidied up since. 

one of the small issues with having a mix of GW and 3d printed models is some of the differing sizes:

The model in the middle is large, and is mounted on a 40mm base. However, the two female figures are supposed to be around 28mm, but one is much smaller and slighter than the other. Still, this could be more a factor of a slightly built individual compared to a larger built one, so I'm not worrying too much. 

The 'Ammo Jack' and 'Chymst' models are also 3d prints, from the same source as the witch model above. 

All of these models have been painted primarily with Army Painter speed paints. Some highlighting has been done with Vallejo paints - mainly around skin tones. While the cultists received a black wash to try and tie them together a bit, the other models have not. 

I have struggled a little to get decent pictures - my desk light seems to be interfering or flickering at a rate which messes with my phone camera. This means my lighting options are a little limited, and the figures look darker in the pictures than they do in the hand. 

Overall, my view of the speed paints is positive. They are a decent tool to have when painting these types of mini. I've ordered some of the new Vallejo range to test out as well, just to provide extra tones - and really to try out their flesh option. 

I'm currently working my way through the other models I bought to act as hangers on, some more scatter terrain and figuring out what paint scheme to go with for my Goliath, Beastmen and Escher gangs.... I've also got a game of Necromunda booked in for the 28th with Dave and Martin - doubtful I'll have those gangs painted by then though!
