For Joshua - 10mm Fantasy Humans

Doing a little bit of an audit of this years hobby progress so far, and I noticed I was missing some of the entries from the AHPCX challenge back in March. For some reason it appears I didn't get around to posting to my own blog the finished items. I suspect it may have been due to the proximity of lockdown, etc!

Anyway, these units were supporting ones for my Knight army, my own contribution to the 'For Joshua' project. These are 10mm figures mainly from Magister Militum. Very much based on the old Warhammer Brettonians, I'd gone for a load of archers and some light mounted archers/yeomen. Pendraken provided the figures for the ritual circle, though I'm not sure where the wizard is from as it was a donation to the project.

I've also just discovered on my PC pictures of two units of 10mm Camel rides I also completed as part of the same army, that I don't appear to have posted anywhere! These are 10mm Pendraken Mahdists

I honestly can't remember why these never made it to my own blog - positively puzzled. I suspect it points to my state of mind back in May!

Apologies, again I have been pretty lax at keeping up with recently painted items for the AHPCX.

I've continued to focus on the 10mm stuff, the aim having been to get a lot done by Hammerhead on Saturday. This included me basing over 54 units of troops which I have received. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, work commitments and my own anxiety over exposing Amy unnecessarily to this virus, we are no longer going to Hammerhead on Saturday. Which I feel guilty about, but in all honesty I had to call an ambulance this morning because my wife was ill (not virus related) and it scared the hell out of me. Thankfully, she is fine - but those 'underlying health conditions' can be a bugger just on a normal day.

Apologies to anyone who was hoping to see the project or catch up with me at the show.

To make myself feel better, I've also already spent some of the money I would have spent at the show on some goodies. The new Late War British FoW book is out this month, which is an instant buy for me.

Onto the figures. Some 15mm GZG rebel colonists up first. Just a few ladies, which I needed to paint for challenge purposes. There are more on the shelf, but other priorities have parked them for a bit. Nice and easy figures to paint, however, when you have been painting regiments of 10mm.

Next up, a load of undead for the 'For Joshua' project:

And finally some Pendraken heavy artillery for my knight army (which is coming along very slowly - currently bogged down painting lots of archers).

That's it for now. I've a few other bits that are work in progress just now, and will hopefully get finished soon. I'm really wanting to get some 15mm WW2 stuff painted, but want to commit to getting all the 10mm stuff I wanted to paint done.

Finished: 15mm GZG Corporate Security Detachment

Hi folks,

Another delayed posting - this time a load of 15mm Ground Zero Games figures finished a while ago for the challenge.

This lot consisted a load of robotic soldiers, a couple of heavy grav drones and some spider drones.

Again, painted up in a military green colour with red and blue lenses and some yellow detailing to show that they were not military units.

Another quick post - looking back I can see I've fallen a bit behind on my posts recently, focusing more on getting stuff done for the AHPC entries.

This recent entry consisted of some lovely Vanguard 3mm Novan Elite Siege Breakers and Striker Heavy Assault Transports. These have been painted up as 40k Ultramarines for my Calth project.

Three stands of Terminators along with Spartan transports. I can switch out the Spartans for other options as well, hopefully.

A nice little addition to the collection which also ticked off a challenge island location for the competition.

After more than a week at picking away at 12 x 10mm figures, I finally got them done and based. The netted me a nifty few points for the AHPC X challenge.

These are models from Polar Fox Studios, which were meant for Warmaster proxies I believe. I picked them up at the same time I bought my General on his Hippogryph.

As seen below:

These knights are the 'Kings Guard' and are elite warriors mounted on flying steeds that they must find and train themselves (with the aid of the blessings of the Lady of the Lake, of course).

We appear to be heading towards using a version of 'To the Strongest' for our planned participation game at Hammerhead in March. Hopefully I will have bulked out this force by then and got a few more of the models others have sent me based.

Currently on the paint pile is a base of Cannon for my knights along with a load of archers and some light yeomanry cavalry.

I'm off to the York show this weekend, so hopefully will pick up a few bits and bobs I need as well as collecting two painted armies that are being donated. Looking forward to seeing those, and need to start thinking about storage and transportation options!

Finished: GZG 15mm Sci Fi Drones (AHPCX)

Some slight progress to report on the painting front, if unusual for me. A couple of Ground Zero Games 15mm Sci Fi 'grav' 'Wasp' drones.

I picked these up a while ago at a show, as GZG were present. They've been in the lead mountain for a while and I thought since I have been focusing on painting 10mm fantasy, I would give myself some 15mm military stuff to do as well.

I've painted these up in a 'corporate security' type scheme. I've an idea for my 15mm sci fi stuff that it will be based around the banning of research into 'true AI', which is being undertaken irregardless by corporate entities on far off backwater colony worlds. Forces I am painting include military/police strike teams, civilian rebels and security drones/forces/Mad AI controlled forces. These should let me do some low level skirmish games, rules to be decided.

I've a few other things in the works, just need to finish bits off and get them posted to the AHPC competition before I can post here.

Finished: AHPC entries 1 and 2

I managed to get myself organised and finish off the first couple of models for 2020 and the first entries to this years Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. I've set myself a bruising target of 1250 points this year, and these guys combined were worth less than 100 (including a bonus!). I better get a shift on!

First up a 15mm diorama I painted for Dave's collection (as my entry fee for this years challenge). Dave will have to complete the 'X marks the spot' challenge to qualify... I wanted to stick to my strengths and paint something WW2 related, so in the end went for an American command/signals post.

The truck, trailer and jeeps are all from Skytrex, while the infantry figures and passengers are all Battlefront metals. The base is a 'coaster' sized and shaped 2mm MDF base - the same as what I used for my Aid Post back in 2017.

I also submitted a couple of tanks I had painted for Martin - 15mm Plastic Soldier Company Fireflys to be precise. These were a donation to Martin's British armour collection following his purchase of the 'Hit the Beach' box. I decided to build and paint them for him as a thank you.

Very plain, limited decals, no bases and no weathering. I'll let Martin add what he likes to match these in with what he's doing.

Now, I just need to get on with the 10mm stuff on my desk...
